Wood sections are cut with a maximum tolerance of ±2 mm (0.1 in), and dimensions with a maximum tolerance of ±20 mm (0.8 in). The wood must meet the following criteria per metre: up to four solid knots, each not exceeding one‑quarter of the piece width; no rot, decay, partially fused or fallen knots; no ring cracks; micro‑cracks of 1‑2 mm (0.1 in) are allowed; pressure‑treated specifications may permit head and foot cracks within tolerance limits. Resin pockets may be up to 10 cm (3.9 in) long, with a maximum of one per metre; no dripping or pulling resin, inner shell, rot cavities, or insect holes are permitted. Manufacturing defects are not acceptable; only the specified tolerances may vary. Deflection shall not exceed 1/50 of component length; impact marks shall not exceed 1/100 of component width. Twist shall not exceed 2 mm (0.1 in) per meter. Bending of the blade will be tolerated between 1/50 and 1/100 of component length. All visible surfaces will be sanded smooth.
