Impregnation is the process of introducing various chemicals into wood by different methods to protect it from decay agents such as fungi, insects, and termites, thereby extending its service life. The impregnation agent penetrates only the sapwood; due to the high density of the heartwood, the solution does not enter that part, which is naturally durable. Only sapwood should be used for impregnation. The process varies depending on wood species, intended environment, and required service life. - It is a protective agent. - It aims to prevent wood from being infested by termites and insects. - For durability, applying varnish over the impregnation is recommended to preserve its properties over the long term. Fill Coat - It reaches a sandable hardness within 2–4 hours after application (may vary with ambient temperature and humidity). - It fills the wood’s pores. - It provides a smooth surface. - By reducing the absorption of the final topcoat, it saves time and material. - It sands easily. Gloss Coat - It delivers the desired gloss appearance and slip resistance on the applied surface. Physically, it is hard, resistant to scratches and impacts; chemically, it resists water, detergents, and other chemicals. It serves as the final topcoat with a glossy look and offers vivid, high transparency. Process quality requires flexible timing.
