It is semi‑permeable, softening, and highly durable, offering low cost and high resistance, making it popular in industry. Polyethylene is categorized by density and chemical properties. Its mechanical characteristics depend on molecular weight, crystalline structure, and branching type. While properties vary by grade, it generally provides good resistance to outdoor conditions and moisture, flexibility, moderate mechanical strength, and excellent chemical resistance. Polyethylene products are used for slides, ladders, railings, barriers, accessories, roofing, etc. To prevent color fading, masterbatch pigments used for coloring polyethylene must have a lightfastness rating of 6 or higher. The wall thickness of load‑bearing components must be at least 6 mm (0.2 in) where the material is subjected to pressure and friction, and a minimum of 4 mm (0.2 in) for non‑load‑bearing barriers and shade structures.
