Low‑density linear polyethylene (LLDPE) is a thermoplastic polymer prized for its flexibility, durability, low cost and resistance to moisture, outdoor conditions, and chemicals. Mechanical properties depend on molecular weight, crystallinity and branching. In playground applications, polyethylene is used for slides, stairs, handrails, barriers, roofs and other components. Color pigments must have a light‑fastness rating of 6 or higher to prevent fading. Parts that bear load or friction should be at least 6 mm (0.2 in) thick; non‑load‑bearing barriers and shade structures require a minimum of 4 mm (0.2 in). Thickness must be uniform with a dimensional tolerance of ±5 %. All metal components are sandblasted to remove oil, dirt and rust, creating a porous surface for better paint adhesion. Fine steel beads are then blown onto the surface under compressed air to open additional pores. After fabrication, each metal part receives a polyester‑based electrostatic powder coat and is cured in a furnace at 200‑220 °C for 20 minutes. The coating process includes a 10‑minute dip in a 70 °C, 5 % degreasing bath, followed by a 15‑minute immersion in a 50 °C, 1 % iron‑removing bath, then rinsing, drying and a final polyester‑based powder coat cured at 180‑200 °C for 20‑30 minutes. All welds are fully coated to prevent corrosion.
